Our peaceful euthanasia process – Step by step
1) A dedicated veterinarian from Pawprints will be your personal guide throughout this journey. We start with an initial phone call to discuss your pet’s history, demeanour and what exactly your concerns are.
2) If you are unsure whether it is time for euthanasia, but you feel that your pet needs support, our vet will perform a house visit consultation to advise you on changes you can make at home to help your pet, and drugs that may be useful for their condition like pain relief or anti-sickess tablets. We then guide you through how to perform and record quality of life assessments from then on, to ensure that your pet’s welfare is maintained to a high standard.
3) You are welcome to contact us anytime if you have any concerns/questions, feel that your pet is deteriorating, or whether you feel that it is time for a peaceful euthanasia as your pet is starting to suffer. We will then organise an appointment with you for a peaceful home euthanasia.
4) We always use sedation before giving the final euthanasia drug, to ensure a calm and kind ending – your special pet deserves nothing less. We support you throughout the process providing comfort and reassurance at this deeply challenging time. Before we leave the appointment, we give you a small booklet which aims to help guide you through the next few tough days or weeks.
5) If you have chosen individual cremation, we hand deliver your pets ashes, using this time for a check in on you and your family. We have been in your shoes and know the importance of check-ins, support and comfort. We are here for you every step of the way.
6) Invoices are emailed to you 1-3 days after your euthanasia appointment and we kindly ask that you please settle this within 7 days of receipt.
Cremation services, Pawprints & Fur clippings
On the day of your pet’s peaceful euthanasia, we offer optional paw prints and/or fur clippings created with care and respect. You can then choose between group cremation, where your pet is cremated with other pets and their ashes scattered in the memorial garden at the crematorium. If you prefer individual cremation, you can choose from a variety of urns/caskets which come with a ‘certificate of cremation’ giving you the extra peace of mind that your pet had a 100% individual cremation. More information about casket options can be found on the Pet Cremation Services website below:

Quality of Life Home Visits
If your pet has been diagnosed with a terminal illness, suffers from chronic illness, has arthritis or you are just are unsure whether your pet is comfortable, we offer home visits to perform a physical examination, discuss how to assess quality of life over the next few weeks/months and come up with a bespoke medication /palliative care plan for your pet. We are resonsible for the wellbeing of our pets so let us help you uphold their welfare and keep them happy.
